With the new Formula One now underway (we’re big fans!), we thought we’d offer our thoughts on the comparisons between F1 and working in the Construction industry
In addition to Mortimer Recruitment, we also operate a quantity surveying and cost consultancy business (MortimerQS) where we recently looked at why working in Construction can be like working in Formula 1, this post looks at our reasoning behind that thought.
Someone once said, ‘construction is like shipbuilding, in that we build a small number of large-scale things, usually as one-offs’. We agree this is a great analogy, but we also think delivering a specialist construction project is like running a Formula 1 team. Why?
- we arrive at different venues around the globe with our people and equipment, utilise local suppliers and make ourselves at home for the duration of the event/project.
- we make use the latest cutting-edge technology with integrated systems for reporting, management, and control
- we are always looking to innovate and develop new technologies and build methods
- We have a team of dedicated engineers, operatives, and technically qualified people to get us over the finish line
- We’re used to working to tight deadlines and timescales and managing complex operations to reach the chequered flag
- It is essential we work as one team to deliver a win
- We all holiday in Monaco… (we wish!)
If you’re looking for a rewarding (and sometimes glamorous) career that can involve working around the World (if you want to of course), then think about a career in Construction. One of the most diverse sectors to work in.
